Do you Hygge? Why introverts are already experts

Home Comforts, The Introvert Lifestyle

Once again, introverts are showing the world they are ahead of the curve. Hot on the heels of the unnecessarily glamorized I’m-so-busy-I’m-exhausted-and-therefore-more-important-than-you era, there is Hygge.

2016 has been the year of Hygge, and with the US election likely to be a massive talking point over the holidays, we could all do with adopting Hygge immediately. You know, for sanity’s sake.

If you’re not familiar with Hygge, here is a useful video.

Introverts will already know this – we have long championed the psychological and physical benefits of a quiet, cozy, thoughtful life. We just didn’t know it had a Scandinavian name.

If Hygge can teach non-introverts anything it’s the sense of calm and complete comfort that awaits when you mindfully combine soft furnishings, a glass of wine, wool sweaters, and a fireplace you can gaze thoughtfully into.

Introverts are more likely to consciously appreciate the pleasures derived from simple comforts that others might miss. We love being home, in a quiet space of our own creation.

Already expert introvert practitioners of Hygge take it to the next level. Not content with flannel pajamas, these Hyggers splash out on silk and cashmere ‘bed suits’. No ordinary scented candles for these guys either. Why would you when you can Hygge with a Fornasetti La Chiave Nero Diffusing Sphere?

If you have Hygge-d for some time now, you may no longer be content with pumpkin-spice flavored beverages, but prefer to sip Ladaurée Cocoa direct from Paris. You may also choose to slip your feet into a beautiful pair of Sanay1313 faux fur-trimmed velvet slippers.

Hygge-ing is not only for the home, workplaces are also getting Hygge makeovers. Sofas, squishy armchairs, and candles are making their way into the modern office. We’re not quite at the wearing-a-onesie-to-work stage but who knows? It could happen.

If it sounds like I’m making fun of Hygge, I’m really not. It’s just that we introverts already had this one in the bag.

Over to you! How do you Hygge? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.

Headphones for the stylish introvert

Home Comforts, The Stylish Introvert

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an introvert in possession of stylish headphones, must want to be left alone.

No uncomfortable, boring white earbuds here! We’re talking full ear coverage headphones in rose golds, shimmering silver, and soft luxurious wool.

I went on the hunt for the most aesthetically pleasing headphones around so you can send the world a ‘Do Not Disturb’ message in supreme style.

Pillow Talk

Home Comforts, The Stylish Introvert

With winter approaching it’s time to start thinking ‘cozy’. When it’s cold outside there’s nothing better than snuggling up in your favourite chair, couch or in bed with super-soft blankets and squishy pillows. It’s also a great time to make some style decisions and have your special space reflect your personal style.

Pillows and cushions are a fabulous way to add comfort and personality to your space. I’ve hunted down some amazing pillows loaded with style and character!

Treats with style for introverts

Home Comforts, Self Care, Sweet Treats, The Introvert Lifestyle, The Stylish Introvert

When looking for treats for ourselves, we introverts tend to look to aesthetic pieces that will make our lives more comfortable.

For example, you could get rid of those hard plastic earbuds and replace them with super-comfortable (and oh-so-stylish) rose gold headphones that practically scream ‘Don’t talk to me’. Perk up your favourite chair with a faux fur pillow and a soft throw. Try a new skill and teach yourself how to cook amazing middle eastern food with a cookbook.

There are lots of little ways to treat yourself and here are some of my personal favourites.

Create a luxurious introvert retreat for less than $200

Home Comforts, The Introvert Lifestyle

I’m a big believer in physical comfort equating with psychological ease. If you are an introvert, psychological ease may be a tricky thing to get a handle on sometimes. With our tendency to become overstimulated by lights, sounds, and interpersonal contact we are often in need of a quiet, calm and comfortable place to decompress and get our energy back.

Not all have a dedicated room in our homes where we can go to recharge. There is, however, one place that is common to most – our beds. For a relatively small financial outlay, you can turn this space into a beautiful, comfortable retreat and add a touch of luxury at the same time.

Go with calming colours like blush and gray. Throw into the mix touches of gold for a luxurious feel. Include soft textures such as faux fur and velvet to really up the indulgence factor.

Below are some beds for inspirations, and further below I’ve sourced, pillows, cushions, blankets, throws, sheets and comforters. Find something you love? Simply click on the item!

If you want to up the glam factor while snoozing as well as get a restful sleep then you’ll love these eye masks. I tend to wear one during summer if I find I’m being woken up too early by daylight and I always carry one when travelling. Getting enough sleep is possibly the most important factor for good health and mental agility.

For lovers of sleep

slip silk pillowcase for lovers of sleep

This week’s Sweet Treat is for those of us who crave sleep like it’s going out of fashion. But be warned, sleeping on a regular cotton pillowcase can cause the following: sleep creases, bed head, skin stretching and wrinkles – quelle horreur! Who knew catching a few z’s was so hazardous?

I’ve no doubt these truly beautiful silk pillowcases do wonders to prevent all of the above but, to be honest, I just want to pretend I’m Elizabeth Taylor when I sleep so, sign me up.

These pillowcases are “natural, hypoallergenic, dust mite-resistant, and allow skin to breathe, unlike synthetic satin (polyester) which sweats, essentially negating the benefits. It does not contain toxic dyes and is recommended by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, hairdressers, and beauty experts.”

Want to rest your weary, freshly blown-out hair on a pillow of silk? Click here to get your very own Slip Silk Pillowcase!
